Bluebonnet Books Every year the Texas Library Association chooses 20 books for students in third through fifth grade to read. These books are considered to be the very best books published that year. They are made up of the different genres of literature. Students have from August to January to read 5 of them. If they read 5 of the books then they can come to the Bluebonnet Celebrations in the Scarborough Library. At the Bluebonnet Celebration students vote for their favorite book, discuss the books, and create an arts and crafts project. All votes are counted and the winning title's name is sent to Austin. Once all votes in Texas have been counted then a book is chosen as the winner and the author is notified. The Bluebonnet Award is the only award given to authors by students.
